Sustainable Development

A global leader in environmental services, Veolia Environnement has put sustainable development issues at the forefront of its strategy by promoting the production and distribution of potable water, decontamination of wastewater, domestic and industrial waste processing, optimization of energy consumption, limitation of greenhouse gas emissions and development of collective transport.

In addition to this sense of environmental responsibility, VE has also undertaken a progressive social, societal and economic approach through its local businesses. This sustainable development focus is also reflected in the way that the financial and extra-financial communities alike acknowledge our performance.

Sustainable development rating:

- Requested by VE as a gauge of its sustainable development performance, the European extra-financial ratings agency BMJ CoreRatings awarded the Veolia Environnement Group an A+ followed by an A++ in 2005 (on a scale of D to triple A).
- In the context of its quarterly review, VE joined the Eurozone Advanced Sustainable Performance Index (ASPI) in March 2005.
- In 2005, Veolia Environnement reinforced the presence it had established on the FTSE4Good index in September 2004.
- In 2006, for the second consecutive year, SustainAbility ranked Veolia Environnement’s sustainable development report among the best 50 in the world.
- Veolia Environnement was selected for the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) in 2006 and was, moreover, classed as the leader in the utilities sector.
